Hello!
I wanted to let you know about some of the new products that we’ve just
released. The four products are WebDetour (a Mac Web CGI), FingerToys (a Finger
Server), PowerGate (another Mac Web CGI), and Mondo Mail (a scriptable SMTP
client). I’ve included our press releases about the first three. The fourth, a
freebie, is Mondo Mail.
Mondo Mail is an easy-to-use, reliable mail gateway for use on a web site. It’s
not a fancy program, but it has a few advantages over other alternatives. It’s
written in C, built from a well-tested and reliable code base, is friendly to
other applications on the system, and is free. It also has a failsafe “kill
file” where undeliverable mail and associated errors are written. This product
is currently unsupported, meaning we can’t dedicate resources to supporting it,
not that bugs and/or problems shouldn’t be reported to us.
The Acme Technologies Web site is located at http://www.acmetech.com/ and our
downloads page is located at http://www.acmetech.com/downloads.html
Thanks for your time!

** FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE **
EXTENDIBLE FINGER DAEMON FOR MACINTOSH.
Stamford, CT – October 11, 1996 – Acme Technologies, publishers of the
acclaimed Acme Script Widgets, announces the release of FingerToys, an
extendible, completely customizable Macintosh Finger Daemon and WebSTAR Finger
gateway.
In designing FingerToys, we decided from the very beginning to make it as open
as possible, and achieved this goal through a CGI-like gateway interface.
FingerToys manages all network communications using a fast, multi-threaded
engine, then passes the request off to gateway applications for handling. While
most Finger daemons are used to serve text files and give information about
users logged into a multi-user operating system, FingerToys gateways can gather
and return information from other applications. We’ve included sample gateways
for listing the running processes and mounted volumes on a server, for
reporting the current WebSTAR settings, and many more cool functions. Gateway
invocations can even be password protected.
But that wasn’t enough, we added support for the WebSTAR CGI API so you can use
FingerToys as a WWW to Finger gateway. Let users finger users around the world
from forms on your Web site.
Not to be outdone, FingerToys can be used as a network client. Open connections
to any port on any host, anywhere on the Internet. Finger gateways can
establish connections to other finger servers, stock quote servers, and even
Web servers, then return the information to the result of the Finger request.
FingerToys offers unheard of power for MacOS Internet servers, at an
unbelievable price! Demos are available immediately from the Acme Technologies
Web site at http://www.acmetech.com/.
FingerToys Features:
– Multi-threaded connection handling
– Execute gateway applications written in AppleScript/C/C++/Frontier
– MacTCP and OpenTransport networking support
– Supports WebSTAR CGI API for WWW-)Finger gateway
– Scriptable outgoing network connections
– Real-time status display shows state of every connection
Pricing for FingerToys has been set at US$59 and orders are accepted on-line at
http://www.acmetech.com/, directly through Acme Technologies at (203) 969-1335.

Now Mac Web site administrators can freely reorganize their servers without
worrying that external links to their sites will break. WebDetour also provides
powerful support for configuring multiple servers into RAICs (Redundant Arrays
of Inexpensive Computers) to support higher levels of traffic than what one
server can handle alone.
