Apple to Distribute Mac OS Tools to Apple Developer Program Members and Mac
OS Tools Vendors

Metrowerks First Vendor to License Tools; Select Tools Will Also be Made
Available to Public for Free Download

CUPERTINO, Calif., Sept. 30 — Apple Computer, Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) today
announced it will begin distributing many of its Mac OS development tools
to the members of Apple’s Developer Programs worldwide in November of this
year. Apple will distribute the tools on CD as an added benefit of program
membership. Select tools will also be made available on the Internet for
free to students, hobbyists and non-program members. By making its
development tools broadly available, Apple is ensuring that developers get
more of the resources they need to take full advantage of new development
opportunities for the Mac OS.

Some of the tools scheduled to be distributed on CD include the Macintosh
Programmer’s Workshop, MacApp, SourceBug, MacsBug, Power Macintosh
Debugger, Virtual User an performance analysis tools. Previously sold
through the Apple Developer Catalog, these tools have been used to create
thousands of high-quality software applications for the Macintosh.

“Extending key Mac OS tools to developers and the public is just one more
step that Apple is taking to ensure that anyone interested in developing
for the Mac OS — commercial or in-house developers, consultants, VARs,
educators, or students — has access to the tools they need to create
innovative products for the Mac OS,” said David Krathwohl, vice president,
Apple Developer Relations.

In addition to bundling its Mac OS tools as part of the developer CD, Apple
will also be licensing them to Mac OS tools vendors. Apple’s first licensee
of these tools is Metrowerks, which will be making them available to Apple
developers worldwide as part of their CodeWarrior and Discover Programming
products.

“Apple making its Mac OS tools more widely available is a great move for
the Mac OS platform and Apple developers,” said Greg Galanos, president and
chief technology officer of Metrowerks. “We’re excited to expand the
collaboration between Metrowerks and Apple by making Apple’s developer
tools available to Metrowerks’ customers worldwide. These tools will be
made available — as part of the CodeWarrior Professional and Discover
Programming SDK — at no additional cost to all CodeWarrior registered
users starting with CodeWarrior Professional Release 2.”
