APPLESHARE IP 6.0 SUPPORTS SOPHISTICATED CIRCUITS’ REBOUND! & POWERKEY PRO

— Built-in Support Extends Capabilities of AppleShare IP 6.0 To Allow
Automatic Restart of Servers —

BOTHELL, WA – August 25, 1998 – Sophisticated Circuits, Inc. today
announced that Apple Computer, Inc. has provided direct support for its
Rebound! and PowerKey Pro server reliability devices in Apple’s new
AppleShare IP 6.0, giving AppleShare IP 6.0 users built-in
application-level fault detection in addition to the standard system-level
fault detection. Built-in AppleShare IP 6.0 support makes Rebound! and
PowerKey Pro natural companions for any AppleShare server, giving users an
easy way to ensure their servers remain operational 24×7. Rebound! retails
for US$99, while PowerKey Pro models are priced from US$99.95 to US$199.95.
Rebound! and all models of PowerKey Pro products are available at
(http://www.sophisticated.com/).

“AppleShare IP 6.0 provides performance, reliability and scalability, along
with the world’s easiest to use interface,” said Bill McGlasson, product
marketing manager for AppleShare IP. “Rebound! and PowerKey Pro provide a
simple and inexpensive way for customers to extend AppleShare’s flexibility
and availability.”

Support From Inside

AppleShare IP 6.0 supports Rebound! and PowerKey Pro using Sophisticated
Circuits’ Application Programming Interface (API), which allows software
developers to build fault-recovery into the very core of their products. By
monitoring applications from the inside, Rebound! not only detects crashes
and freezes, but a variety of other fault conditions which can also render
a server non-operational.

Products with Rebound! support periodically ping the Rebound! software, in
much the same way that the Rebound! software pings its hardware unit. This
patent-pending multi-level technology allows Rebound! and PowerKey Pro to
simultaneously monitor multiple applications and automatically restart the
server if any of them cease responding. Rebound! first attempts a “soft”
Finder Restart. If that fails, it performs a “hard” reset by sending the
ADB reset key combination. PowerKey Pro can go one step further by actually
power-cycling the server and its peripherals.

“Apple immediately saw the advantages of supporting Rebound! and PowerKey
Pro” said Jonathan Feinstein of Sophisticated Circuits. “Providing status
information from inside of applications allows Rebound! and PowerKey Pro to
detect and correct server problems before the user knows there is an
issue.”

The originator and market-leader in Mac auto-restart devices, Sophisticated
Circuits has been in the Macintosh business since 1984 and has a tremendous
amount of support from the developer community. Apple Computer, Inc. is the
latest on a growing list of companies actively supporting Sophisticated
Circuits’ unique technology. Others include: StarNine Technologies, Inc.;
Maxum Development Corp.; Imagina, Inc.; Purity Software, Inc.; Stalker
Software, Inc.; Spider Island Software; MDG Computer Services, Inc.; Social
Engineering Inc.; Fog City Software; and Pacific Coast Software.
