[MD1] AppMaker #11 Beta

AppMaker #11 Beta Released

Grantham, NH – October 22, 1998 – Bowers Development has released Beta
modules for the upcoming AppMaker #11. All AppMaker users with a current
subscription are invited to try the new modules. Information and a request
form are at http://members.aol.com/bowersdev/.

More than a GUI Builder
The theme in AppMaker #11 is to do more of the application logic for you.
Code that you would have had to write by hand, AppMaker now generates for
you. You design your user interface and design the data items, then connect
them. AppMaker generates the skeleton, the sinews, and much of the muscle
of the application logic in addition to generating resources and source
code for the user interface.

Major new features
* Supports array data – in particular an array of pointers to other data
objects. An array signals when its content is changed.
* Generates file I/O to read/write any data Members that are specified as
“persistent.” This includes array Members.
* Adds a custom list box, the “Panel” flavor, that uses a Panel to specify
the content of each row of the list. A Panel is a collection of window
items, usually static text items. This makes it very easy to create
multi-column lists.
* A list box now can specify a Source Array to specify the content of the
list box.
* A list box can specify a Command to be invoked when the list is
double-clicked.
* Lets you specify Extra Include files to be generated for data members
that need them.
* Window items can now specify “Enabling Data.” This data member, which
should be a boolean, controls whethere the item is enabled or disabled.
* Commands that invoke modal dialogs can include code fragments to be
generated before and/or after invoking the dialog.
* The generated and library code for Modeless dialogs now provides simpler
access to the dialog’s data.
* The AMReminder example demonstrates most of these new features.
* New documentation describes how to add functional code, how to define
data and connect to the UI, and the design theory and structure of the
generated code.

About AppMaker
AppMaker is a programming tool that makes it faster and easier to develop a
Macintosh application. Users point and click to design menus, windows,
dialogs, and their contents including icon buttons, sliders, progress bars,
group boxes, and tab panels. They define their internal data structures and
connect UI items to data items. Then AppMaker generates expert-quality
source code and resources to implement their design.

Pricing and Availability
AppMaker #10 is available now from DevDepot,
http://www.devdepot.com/, or from Bowers Development,
