FileMaker Releases ODBC Driver Technology Preview For FileMaker Pro 4.1 Users

Free Download Available Now At www.filemaker.com

Santa Clara, Calif., April 26, 1999 – FileMaker, Inc. today announced
the immediate availability of a FileMaker Pro ODBC Driver Technology
Preview exclusively for FileMaker Pro 4.1 Windows and Mac OS users,
the latest version of the company’s award-winning database software
application. The FileMaker ODBC Driver, available for free
downloading at www.filemaker.com, is a time-dated technology preview
that enables FileMaker Pro 4.1 as a powerful data source giving
FileMaker Pro 4.1 users the ability to populate other ODBC compliant
applications with FileMaker Pro based data.

The company’s release of FileMaker Pro 4.1 last year empowered users
to import data from other data sources into FileMaker Pro with the
inclusion of several key trial ODBC Drivers from MERANT (formerly
INTERSOLV, INC). FileMaker Pro 4.1 users may either seamlessly import
data into a pre-existing FileMaker database or actually create a
completely new FileMaker Pro database directly from such data sources
as Oracle 7, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Access 97 or Microsoft
Excel. Once a SQL statement is executed within FileMaker Pro 4.1, an
entire database, complete with data and fields is created
automatically. Built-in Internet/Intranet capabilities let users
easily publish live databases to the Web in just a few mouse clicks!

With the addition of the new FileMaker Pro ODBC Driver, FileMaker Pro
4.1 users may now move, share, and access data easily with a wide
variety of ODBC-compliant mainstream desktop applications and
development tools – a clear example of how FileMaker Pro is
integrating with enterprise data standards while maintaining its
legendary ease-of-use.

“IT departments are increasingly overloaded, and the opportunity for
self-service workgroup solutions is huge. FileMaker is a leader here,
and one that IT is embracing, due to its ease of use and
administration, rapid development and deployment, and
Internet/Intranet strengths,” said Dominique Goupil, FileMaker
president.

“FileMaker now becomes even more important to workgroup users as a
valuable data source with the ability to seamlessly integrate with
Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and other applications,” said Tony
Campitelli, director of product management, FileMaker, Inc.

Making FileMaker Pro data more accessible Once enabled as an ODBC
data source, FileMaker Pro 4.1 databases can fulfill requests from a
wide variety enterprise-wide query tools and desktop productivity
applications that support ODBC – including Microsoft SQL Server.

Examples include populating a corporate based Microsoft SQL Server
with FileMaker Pro 4.1 data; conducting an automatic mail merge with
ODBC compliant word processors; charting FileMaker Pro data with
Microsoft Excel; diagramming FileMaker Pro data with Visio; or
creating a Visual Basic application to interact with FileMaker Pro
data.
