[MD1] Realtime Multimedia Capabilities for Java

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LiquiMedia Inc. Demonstrates Realtime Multimedia Capabilities for
Java(tm) Technology

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – June 15, 1999 * LiquiMedia Inc. today announced
at JavaOne(tm) that it has completed development of its breakthrough
realtime multimedia operating system technology, and demonstrated an
integration of realtime scheduling with the Java(tm) platform. The
LiquiMedia(tm) technology enables multiple independently-authored
hard realtime applications — such as digital video decoders,
audio/video recording and mixing, games, and Internet telephony — to
run smoothly and concurrently.

“Because the LiquiMedia technology operates correctly even in the
face of malicious applications, we think it is the ideal underpinning
for a realtime Java virtual machine aimed at media applications in
both the embedded and desktop markets,” said Robert Kroeger, the
company’s founder and Chief Technology Officer. “LiquiMedia’s
admission control mechanism is a necessary component of the Java
virtual machine on a device serving as the hub of a community of
media devices enabled with Jini(tm) technology.”

“We are especially excited by the prospect of LiquiMedia admission
control technology enabling a new class of realtime multimedia
component software using JavaBeans(tm) technology, authored by many
independent vendors, for tasks like interactive digital video
editing, audio mixing, gaming and videoconferencing”, added Keith
Bates, the company’s President. “With the emergence of networked
digital media appliances in the home, the realtime admission control
capabilities of LiquiMedia technology will play an important role in
opening up new markets and application development opportunities.”

The company noted that LiquiMedia technology can extend virtual
machines and both realtime and general-purpose operating systems with
hard realtime scheduling and admission control capabilities without
any requirement for special hardware. “An important feature of the
LiquiMedia technology is that it can augment most non-realtime
operating systems or virtual machines with admission control and hard
realtime scheduling,” said Robert Kroeger.
