ADA ESSENTIALS: OVERVIEW, EXAMPLES & GLOSSARY explains the Ada language,
often called “the most powerful and reliable programming language on
earth and in space.”

This new book adopts the point of view that an Ada program is like a set
of Lego blocks snapped together. Example programs are depicted
graphically, showing the relationships between the various software
modules. A unique glossary/index makes it easy for readers to find
explanations and examples of language features.

Dr. Crawford has filled a much-needed niche with this compact work.
Though there are already a number of large texts covering Ada in a
comprehensive way, ADA ESSENTIALS is the first compact text that focuses
strictly on the basics.

It is designed for programmers who are experienced in one or more other
languages and desire a quick way to learn Ada essentials, illustrated
with small, compilable, runable programs. It can also serve as a
supplementary reference source for students taking college courses or
corporate training courses in Ada.

The text is organized in six chapters, three appendices, references and
the glossary/index. The first four chapters cover the essentials. The
final two chapters introduce Ada’s support for object oriented
programming and Ada’s built-in mechanisms for supporting concurrency and
synchronization. This volume is intended as the first in the “LearnAda”
series. See www.learnada.com for future announcements.

Bard Crawford is a semi-retired aerospace engineer. He holds a PhD from
MIT and was a member of the MIT Apollo Project team that designed the
navigation system used in traveling to the Moon and back.
