Trolltech releases an Open Beta of Qt/Mac

August 6, 2001 – Oslo, Norway – Trolltech is now releasing an open beta of
Qt/Mac, the Mac OS X port of Qt, the emerging standard cross-platform C++
GUI application development framework. As a result, thousands of Qt-based
applications, and tens of thousands of Qt developers, are now available for
the Macintosh platform.

Haavard Nord, Trolltech’s CEO, said “This Mac port of Qt means that Mac
developers can now reap the same benefits that all Qt developers have: The
ability to target all of the major computing environments with a single
source-tree and port to those environments with a simple recompile. The
savings in time, in cost, and in organizational overhead speak for
themselves.”

Qt/Mac Open Beta 1 is available from the Trolltech website
(www.trolltech.com) in the form of a time-limited binary. Interested
parties must go to the Trolltech website to register for the Beta. The
final release of Qt/Mac will be available in October.

For an example of one of Trolltech’s existing customers porting their
application to Mac OS X, please see
http://www.trolltech.com/references/focus/brainvoyager.html for screenshots
and comments from the lead engineer.

The finished release of Qt/Mac will become part of the Qt 3.0 product line,
and all source code will be provided to customers. The pricing on Qt/Mac
will be similar to current Qt/Windows and Qt/X11 Professional and
Enterprise editions.

Trolltech’s Qt allows developers to create single-source applications that
run natively on multiple platforms, and can be ported with a simple
recompile. Developers, and the companies they work for, reap twin benefits:
enhanced productivity and low overhead.
