Microsoft is attempting to block non-Internet Explorer Web browsers from accessing its popular MSN.com Web site, according to c|net. When attempting to access the site from alternative Web browsers, such as earlier versions of Netscape and Opera, a page appears notifying the user that MSN.com will not render correctly using the browser, and users will “see the most advanced functionality of MSN.com only with the latest version of Microsoft Internet Explorer or MSN Explorer.” Opera Software, maker of the Opera Web browser, indicates that Microsoft has specifically blocked its browser from accessing the site. OmniWeb, by contrast, emulates itself as an Internet Explorer browser by default and is able to access and accurately render the MSN.com Web site.
