Court orders Adobe to halt distribution of InDesign 1.5

A U.S. federal district court judge has filed a preliminary injunction order against Adobe Systems, barring the software maker from distributing its InDesign page layout software, according to MacCentral. The ruling only affects distribution of the software in the United States, as other countries exceed the court’s jurisdiction. The order comes amid copyright infringement allegations from Trio Systems, which alleges in its suit that Adobe incorporated its C-Index database engine into the InDesign software, even though it had signed a contract agreeing not to use C-Index in any open programs. Adobe is disappointed and in disagreement with the injunction, but has expressed its intent to comply by discontinuing the distribution of the products for the time being. Adobe’s statement concerning the order also largely referred to the issue as a moot point for its customers, because the company plans to ship InDesign 2.0 in January 2002.
