WiebeTech today announced an updated version of its DesktopGB external FireWire/USB 2.0 hard drive. The new drive sports a quieter fan and updated firmware that adds support for 160GB hard drives and boosts real-world transfer rates to more than 30MB/sec. Current DesktopGB owners are eligible to receive the firmware update and quieter fan free of charge, and can do so by contacting WiebeTech. Additionally, the company reduced prices on its 60GB/7200RPM and 80GB/7200RPM models to US$249.95 and $299.95, respectively, and introduced a 120GB/7200RPM model for $369.95. A case-only (no drive) version is also available for $159.95.
