Sony updates digital imaging line

Sony yesterday evening made a number of product announcements, including introducing three new P Series digital cameras that focus on “behind-the-scenes technology” to improve automatic focus, exposure, and adjustments in various lighting conditions. The 2.0 megapixel P31 (US$220, shipping in March) features a 3x digital zoom, while the larger P51 ($300, shipping in April) also features a 2x optical zoom. The 3.2 megapixel P71 ($400, shipping in March) features a 3x optical zoom and a 2x digital zoom. Sony also announced two new CD Mavica digital camera models, which save images to 3-inch CD-R/RW media: the 2.0 megapixel MVC-CD250 ($600) and the 4.0 megapixel MVC-CD400 ($900). Both cameras feature 3x optical and 2x digital zoom. Sony also updated its MiniDV Handycam line, introducing new models that feature many improvements over their predecessors. Pricing begins at $800 for the entry-level TRV18 and tops out at $1,600 for the top-of-the-line TRV50 that features a 1.5 megapixel CCD.
