Maine middle school iBook budget remains intact

Maine Governor Angus King on Tuesday approved a state budget that included US$25 million allotted for his proposal to provide every seventh- and eighth-grader in the state with an Apple iBook, according to the Lewiston Sun Journal. The sale was touted by Apple CEO Steve Jobs in January as the largest educational sale in history, but soon came under fire as the state faced a budget deficit in social services and other areas. Nineteen-thousand iBooks will be delivered for seventh-grade classrooms in August; eighth-grade classrooms will receive their iBooks in 2003.
