Apple board member to join Tyco’s board

Apple board member Jerome York will soon join Tyco’s troubled board, but his business ties to Apple appear to run counter to what Tyco is trying to instill as CEO Edward Breen works to restore credibility, reports Reuters. Critics point to York’s position on Apple’s compensation committee, even though he is CEO of Micro Warehouse, a large Apple reseller. While York was on the board, Apple CEO Steve Jobs received a US$90 million Gulfstream jet for the two-and-a-half years he served without pay. “It was the old boys network at its worst,” said James Voye, a pension fund representative for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, which has questioned the independence of Apple’s compensation committee. York also serves on Apple’s audit committee and helped in the turnarounds at Chrysler and IBM as a chief financial officer.
