OpenOffice.org today released the first X11 public beta of OpenOffice for Mac OS X, its open source suite of productivity applications. The release can run on DarwinPPC, and Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar) or higher with the help from other open source projects, such as the X11 Windowing System. The public beta of OpenOffice for Mac OS X can save files, print to any printer that has drivers for Mac OS X 10.2 or Darwin 6, and includes many bug fixes. OpenOffice.org notes that the beta release of OpenOffice is “not a traditional Mac OS X user-friendly application,” and is meant for Darwin and Unix-savvy Mac OS X users.
