Google may ‘alter’ Gmail service

Google President and Co-Founder Sergey Brin told The Wall Street Journal in an interview (paid subscription required) that the company is considering making changes to its recently announced Gmail email service amid privacy concerns. The service, which is still in beta testing, offers 1GB of free email storage and was to insert targeted advertising into user’s messages. This caused an uproar amongst privacy advocates. Brin told WSJ that “Google won’t make any ‘rash changes’ to the product, which is still limited to a group of thousands of test users. But he said it won’t rule out one major change that could make Gmail more palatable to privacy advocates.”
