G5 to power new iMac

During Apple’s third quarter conference call, CFO Peter Oppenheimer revealed that the next generation iMac, which will begin shipping in September, will be powered by the PowerPC G5 processor. He said an IBM chip shortage was behind the delay of the new Apple desktops. Earlier this month, Apple quietly announced that it is no longer taking orders for the current iMac and that a new model will be introduced in September.
