Bahrain schools go Mac

A BD2.6 million contract was signed yesterday “to take Bahrain’s government schools into cyber space,” reports the Gulf Daily News. Schools throughout the Persian Gulf country will be using Macs to help children keep up with the electronic age, according to the story (first noted at MacSurfer). The contract for the deal was signed between the Education Ministry, Apple Centre and the Integrated Technology Group (ITG). Apple Centre will be responsible for providing, installing and operating the electronic system at all government schools of all education stages, in addition to training teachers on its uses, the Gulf Daily News adds. The five-year agreement, which ends in July 2009, aims at expanding the information technology system at all stages of government education.
