Amazon’s new Web search offers ‘TiVo-like’ features

Amazon.com has officially unveiled its new Web search engine, reports CNET News. “The service greatly expands on early features of A9 (an independent unit of Amazon), which launched in test form in April, by turning it into a centralized server to power personalized Web search,” notes CNET. “To this end, A9 lets people navigate, annotate and store Web pages they’ve visited, and like TiVo, will recommend sites based on users’ past preferences.” One interesting aspect of this story is Amazon’s relationship with Google. Some of the technology powering A9 is from Google, and Amazon also displays ads sponsored by the search giant.
