OutKast tops first digital music sales awards

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) handed out its first awards this week for digtal music sold through online stores such as Apple’s iTunes. OutKast’s “Hey Ya!” took top honors with a multi-platinum award for downloads of at least 400,000, while “The Way You Move” and “Roses” won platinum awards for sales of more than 200,000 each. D12, Maroon 5 and Hoobastank also received platinum awards, while Beyonce, the Black Eyed Peas and Usher earned multiple gold awards for sales of over 100,000 each. The RIAA gave out 45 gold awards in all.
