The Omni Group (http://www.omnigroup.com) has updated OmniOutliner,
its outlining app for Mac OS X, to version 3.9. The new version
introduces a new auto-save system, new duplicate row function, the
ability to paste into OmniGraphSketcher, new software updating
mechanism, and more. OmniOutliner Pro 3.9 introduces .docx export
support.
Version 3.9 is also a maintenance release that fixes reported issues
and adds numerous other enhancements. OmniOutliner now uses Apple’s
auto-save feature for backups, which supplants the previous auto-save
system, and now backs up new, never-before-saved files in case of a
crash. Pre-saved files are backed up to to “~/Library/Autosave
Information,” while files, once saved, are located in the folder
containing the OmniOutliner document. With the new auto-save system,
after a crash, all backup copies automatically load upon relaunch,
with an option to “revert to saved” for previously saved documents.
OmniOutliner 3.9 can now automatically install updates with one
command. OmniOutliner 3.9 now allows users to paste content directly
into OmniGraphSketcher. A new duplicate row function facilitates
quick row replication.
In addition, OmniOutliner Pro 3.9 introduces .docx support for Office
Open XML (OOXML) format export into Word 2008 and Pages 09. The new
.docx export support enables the conversion of styles applied in
OmniOutliner Pro documents to display in Microsoft Word 2008 or Pages
’09, and the outline structure to display in the outline view in Word
or Pages ’09. The .docx export support allows row-level styles to
correspond as heading styles, style characteristics for specific text
to apply directly to that text, and “whole document” styles to
correspond to the Normal paragraph style. The .docx export support
provides smoother interoperability between applications for files,
including most embedded images and PDFs.
You can use OmniOutliner’s document structure to create hierarchies
of main headings and subpoints that can be expanded and collapsed.
And you aren’t limited to outlines — you’ve got multiple columns,
smart checkboxes, customizable popup lists, and a styles system at
your disposal.
OmniOutliner costs US$39.95 and the pro version is $69.96. Version
3.9 is a free update for registered users of version 3.x.
