dBelement has announced Reader, a free ebook reader for the iPad. It sports an organized bookshelf interface and a built-in “public library.”

Along the same lines, Inkstone Software has released QuickReader 2.0 and partnered with Feedbooks to offer instant access to 6,500-plus free and indie published e-books directly from within the new version of the US$5.99 eBook reader.

OS&B has introduced Hazard Manager 1.0 for the iPad. A free workplace inspection app, it allows automation of the entry, configuration, and export of hazard points recorded on a workplace floor plan. The app supports email export of a date-stamped, user-stamped, x-y geo-referenced .csv Hazard database to GIS, CAD, or spreadsheet programs for record keeping, spatial analysis, and 3-D visualization.

24x7digital has updated their TeachMe: Kindergarten learning game for the iPhone and iPod touch to version 2.1. It’s a $0.99 educational app that teaches four age-appropriate topics to kindergartners: sight words, addition, subtraction and spelling. Version 2.1 offers a new virtual aquarium reward, as well as allowing parents to increase topic levels and change how quickly questions are learned.

Kengin Consulting has announced AmsterdamFUN 1.1 for iPhone and iPod touch users. The $0.99 app offers a plethora of fun locations and activities for the visitor to Amsterdam, along with a mapping feature to help tourists get to where they’re going without getting lost. Developers have included some fun elements for using the application, as well. The app lists 80 different sights and activities for the casual visitor to Amsterdam.

Packing Pro, the $0.99 iPhone travel app by Quinn Genzel, has just been given a major upgrade in preparation for the upcoming summer travel season. New features include a 60% larger master catalog, a Smart Search tool, and full landscape orientation and keyboard support.

finarX GmbH has released finarX Scan 3.0.0 for iPhone users. The $3.99 app turns a 3G or 3GS iPhone into a portable scanner. Users can snap a picture of any document, whiteboard, etc., edit it, correct perspective bias if necessary and handle the final product in a variety ways. The update expands the app’s capabilities, offering Google Docs support and OCR integration, as well as Google’s translation service.
