Apple has entered the ranks of the top five computers vendors in the UK for the first time, knocking Samsung out of the group, says the Gartner research group (http://www.gartner.com). The Mac had 6.6% market share compared to 23.4% for HP, 19.3 for Acer, 9.6 for Dell and 8.6 for Asus.
Apple was the only one of the five to grow UK computer shipments in the first quarter of the year. Gartner says it saw year-over-year global growth of 15.9% and year-over-year growth of 10% in the UK.
The top four UK computer vendors in the first quarter of 2011 were HP, Acer, Dell and Toshiba. All four saw drops in units shipped ranging from 12% to 30%.
