Rumors of the day: Goodbye iWeb, iPhone updates

RumorsGraphic.jpg

Here are the latest rumors circulating in the Apple blogosphere:

“MacRumors” (http://www.macrumors.com) says one of its readers was told by Apple CEO Steve Jobs in a terse email that iWeb, the web site component of Apple’s iLife suite, will be going the way of the Dodo bird.

When asked if, with the coming disappearance of MobileMe, he would need to find an “alternate website builder and someone to host my sites,” the “MacRumors” reader was told “yep.” Of course, it’s possible that iWeb could continue with users having to find an alternate host besides MobileMe. We’ll see.

According to a “Chronic Wire” tweet (http://macte.ch/4Td17), “unlocked” iPhones will arrive on Wednesday. The smartphone will purportedly be available in black or white with 16GB and 32GB capacities. Maybe, but I’m dubious.

Speaking of the iPhone, “9to5Mac” (http://macte.ch/JVvcC), the next gen iPhone is now in the final testing stage and will be released in September. The article adds that Apple and Verizon have yet to strike a deal regarding FaceTime over 3G for the Verizon network. My take: I don’t know about the FaceTime deal, but the September time frame for the iPhone 5 sounds about right.
