Newer Technology (http://www.newertech.com) has expanded the storage capacity of its Guardian MAXimus desktop storage solution line to 4B. By utilizing two 3.5-inch, 4TB SATA 6Gb/s hard drive in a hardware RAID 1 (mirror) array, the Guardian MAXimus storage solution delivers 33 percent more storage/backup capacity per each of the installed drives over current 3TB hard drives, the company says.

With up to a “quad interface”of FireWire 800, FireWire 400, USB 3.0, and eSATA connections, the Guardian MAXimus line offers plug and play data transfer speeds up to 300MB/second with Mac and PC computers. It allows full data accessibility to protect users against system downtime. If a user experiences a drive issue, the affected drive need only be replaced with the same type of drive while the user continues to work and Guardian MAXimus automatically rebuilds the mirror by writing the contents of the remaining original functional drive to the replacement drive.

The new 4TB hard drives built into the Guardian MAXimus utilizes a halogen-free design and power-efficient operation for up to a 28% idle power savings per drive, according to the folks at NewerTech. The drives also use Advanced Format, which increases the sector size from 512 bytes to 4096 (4K) bytes, thereby increasing capacities and improving error correction capabilities.

Guardian MAXimus manufacturer’s suggested retail prices start at US$279.99. They’re available now from Newer Technology’s exclusive distributor, Other World Computing (http://www.macsales.com), as well as through select retailers in six pre-configured solutions ranging from 500GB up to 4TB, as well as a 0GB “Add Your Own Drives” kit.
