The chief executives of Apple and Samsung, along with their respective general counsels, will meet in a San Francisco courthouse within 90 days to try and settle an ongoing, global patent battle, reports “FOSS Patents” (http://macte.ch/ElOzD). U.S. Magistrate Judge Joseph C. Spero is slated to oversee the meeting.
“This settlement effort is only semi-voluntary. Judge Lucy Koh, the federal judge presiding over the two Apple v. Samsung lawsuits in the Northern District of California, ordered the parties to comment on their availability for an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) effort,”Florian Mueller writes for “FOSS Patents. “In this situation, they both had to be cooperative: if only one of them had made the CEO available, the other one would have appeared to be less than constructive.”
Apple and Samsung have filed more than 30 lawsuits against each other across four continents. Both claim various patent infringements.
