As expected Intel officially debuted its Ivy Bridge processors today. “BBC News” reports (http://macte.ch/iHTuG) that the chips are the first to sport what Intel says is a “3D transistor,” which offers more power while using less energy.

The initial release includes 13 quad-core processors, most of which will be targeted at desktop computers. Look for new iMacs, and probably revamped MacBook Pros, in the near future.

Further dual core processors, suitable for laptops will be announced “later this spring.” That’s when the next rev of MacBook Airs should arrive.
