xDev has announced the iXtreme (www.ixtreme.com) via the crowd-funding site Kickstarter at over 50% discount to retail. iXtreme is an adventure and gaming case for the iPhone 4 and 5.

The specialized case features: a tough composite outer shell; a shock-isolating inner liner; water- and dust-resistant sound portals; an integrated three-point mounting system with one-finger release; an 180° three-element wide-angle lens and lens guard; and a viewing kickstand.

The inner liner can be used as a daily-use case when the mounting features of the outer shell aren’t required. The liner is also designed to hold the lens independent of the shell. The company says it’s testing additional lenses.

The iXtreme allows the use of the phone features while in the case, including the headphone jack. The case allows an iPhone owner to use their phone as a mountable point of view (POV) camera. It also simulates the feeling of a traditional camcorder and serves as a gaming console steering wheel when using detachable handles called iX Grips. The product has been designed to work with GoPro accessories and is adaptable to most mounting system.

The product is being introduced via Kickstarter and is expect to ship to consumers in March 2013. xDev plans to produce the product in the United States. The case will retail at US$99, but the first production units will ship to Kickstarter backers at over 50% discount to retail including a pair of iX Grips, four of the company’s 0° and 90° Adapters for GoPro°, and the iX Tripod Mount. The product launch can be viewed on Kickstarter.com .
