Apple reportedly dismisses Maps manager

“Bloomberg” (http://macte.ch/bjVrq) says Apple has reportedly fired the manager responsible for the maligned Maps app that debuted with iOS 6.

Richard Williamson, who oversaw the mapping team, was fired by Senior Vice President Eddy Cue, the article says, quoting unnamed “people, who asked not to be named because the information wasn’t yet public.”

What’s more, per “Bloomberg,” Cue, who took over last month as part of a management shakeup, is seeking advice from outside mapping-technology experts and prodding digital maps provider, TomTom NV, to fix landmark and navigation data it shares with Apple.

The Maps brouhaha is also believed to be one of the reasons Scott Forstall is leaving Apple. In October Apple announced that Forstall, Apple’s senior vice president of iPhone software, will be leaving Apple next year and will serve as an advisor to CEO Tim Cook in the interim. Cue will be taking over his Maps and Siri duties.
