Folding Text for Mac OS X gets improved editor, more

Hog Bay Software has introduced FoldingText 2.0 (www.foldingtext.com), a text productivity tool for Mac OS X. The upgrade offers an improved editor, expanded syntax highlighting, and a new software development kit.

With Folding Text, you can organize with plain text outlines and use modes to embed specialized behavior such as todos and timers. As users type, FoldingText auto-formats the document into sections, lists, and paragraphs using Markdown-based formatting. Users can fold away sections to get a clear overview of their work, expand them to see the details, and focus in on a section to hide everything else.

For example, you can add “.todo” into your outline and list items transform into todo’s items with clickable checkboxes. Click a checkbox and the item is marked “@done” with strikethrough formatting. You can add “.timer” in your outline to create a live multi-step timer. Enter times in plain text and use FoldingText to stay on-task and on-time throughout the day.

FoldingText requires Mac OS X 10.7 or later. It normally costs US$14.99 and is available worldwide exclusively through the Mac App Store in the Productivity category. However, it’s being offered at 50% off for a limited time.
