Nocturnal Aviation Software releases update of FTranProjectBuilder IDE

Nocturnal Aviation Software has announced FTranProjectBuilder 2.0, a new version of the Mac-native integrated development environment (IDE) designed specifically to speed up and simplify modern Fortran code development.

Created for scientists, engineers and students, it allows programmers to write and run simple or complex programs using any Mac Fortran compiler without resorting to tools not dedicated to Fortran or the Mac. HPC programmers can use FTranProjectBuilder to develop and run parallel MPI or OpenMP codes.

It has a built-in Fortran code editor with features like templates, syntax coloring and automatic comment formatting. FTranProjectBuilder provides project-wide search and allows terminal or file input. It automatically handles Fortran module dependencies, making compilation an easy one-click operation.

Version 2 encourages writing modern F2003+ code by adding autocomplete and inquiry functions. The new context sensitive autocomplete feature suggests appropriate variables, procedures, derived type components and type bound procedures as the user types. The new inquiry functions show variable, procedure, type and module definitions in a popover view without having to jump to other files. Official documentation for Fortran intrinsic procedures can also now be viewed in a popover.

Developed to work with any Mac Fortran compiler (not included), FTranProjectBuilder configures itself by scanning for installed compilers and presents them in a pull-down menu. You can use a different compiler for each project, or easily switch between compilers to compare performance.

FTranProjectBuilder is available now for purchase or for a free 30-day demo at Nocturnal Aviation Software (http://tinyurl.com/pwo5olu). It runs on Mac OS X 10.7 or higher and at least one Fortran compiler installed. Licenses are available for US$79 for commercial and government users, $59 for academic researchers and $29 for students and hobbyists. Upgrades are free to current users.
