Details
——-
Two versions are available. Fantasm and PowerFantasm. Fantasm will assemble
68k assembly language, and PowerFantasm assembles both 68k and PowerPC
assembly language.
This release describes PowerFantasm – Fantasm is similar without the
PowerPC components.
Capable of producing very large applications, that run at lightening speed,
PowerFantasm is a must for squeezing every last drop of power out of
Macintosh processors.
PowerFantasm comes complete with “Eddie”, a high speed, hyper jumping,
chroma coding editor understanding 68k and PowerPC source code.
Also included in the package is a Beginners Guide to Macintosh assembly
language, two large (170 page) manuals, 25 examples in both 68k and PowerPC
including a native game,
a Librarian for maintaining your own libraries, Standard 68k and PowerPC
libraries (with source), 55 header files, various Eddie colour sets,
on-line language references.
Assembler features:
PowerFantasm assembles for all known 68k and PowerPC processors (including
64 bit instructions), and outputs standard Macintosh applications.
The PowerPC assembler handles all 32 bit “extended” instructions as defined
in the architecture.
PowerFantasm has been designed from the outset to be as simple as possible
to use, whilst offering as much power as you need. We believe the PowerPC
side of PowerFantasm to be very simple to use. In fact, using Fantasm to
write PowerPC assembly language is far easier than writing 68k assembly
language thanks to Fantasms design.
PowerFantasm is capable of producing Native applications that run faster
than other systems output due to it’s in-line glue and optimised TOC design.
PowerFantasm comes with 68k and PowerPC assemblers and linkers, and both
assemblers are always available allowing mixed code in the same source
file. Fantasm can switch assemblers on the fly with two simple directives
– “proc_ppc” and “proc_68k”.
Header files detailing all known Macintosh traps (as imports) and Fantasms
PowerPC macros are included from the “Headers” folder, thus making
expansion easy (for example writing your own extended instructions, or
modifying the existing support macros). These headers can be used in both
Stand Alone mode and in incremental Build mode.
PowerFantasm runs in two distinct modes. In Stand Alone mode, Fantasm can
output code to RAM for testing, or can create a complete double clickable
native application on disk. Build mode uses a linker. Applications created
in Build mode will always be smaller than applications created in stand
alone mode as the linker strips out all unnecessary imports, code and data
pointers. Build mode uses incrememntal methods to provide the fastest
possible turn-round time.
PowerFantasm will allow the assembly and building of native applications on
a 68k Mac, but will not test link to the local Import libraries (because
there won’t be any!). On a PowerMac, Fantasm always tests the fragment by
linking with the machines Import libraries (or Dynamic Link Libraries).
Eddie.
——
Eddie is Lightsofts’ integrated editor designed specifically for programming
Eddie is written in 100% machine code (as is Fantasm) for exceptional speed
and responsivness. In tests Eddie has been found to be 1100% faster than
other Mac editors in monochrome mode, and 400% faster in chroma mode. Eddie
has been written from scratch and does not rely on third party code to
break the 32k limit.
Eddie features at a glance.
1. Automatic backups (creates a backup folder in the main folder).
2. Intelligent file revert.
3. Version control of source files (with auto version control if needed)
4. Password protection.
5. Understands both 68k and PowerPC assembly language.
6. Auto indenting.
7. Can colour text, windows and language specifics.
8. Auto save files periodically.
9. Save files on program switch – i.e. change from Eddie to another App.
and Eddie saves all its changed files.
10. Turbo mode for both the caret and selection speeds
11. Fully multi tasking – no need to wait whilst you are searching
thousands of files.
12. Comment and uncomment hilited blocks of code.
13. Change a block to upper or lower case.
14. Wrap to window or column.
15. Hyperjumps to code and macro definitions. (OPTION click on call).
16. Imports ST(tm), Amiga(tm),PC(tm) and Unix(tm) files and can save in
these formats.
17. Search and replace functions. Multifile search and list.
18. Dynamic bookmark.
19. Chroma coding colours the source code for you depending on the syntax.
The chroma coding is dynamic giving instant update to modifications.
The colours can be set to anything you like and Eddie comes with many
predefined colour sets.
20. Can be used either on its own, or integrated (as a front end) with
Fantasm or PowerFantasm.
21. Supports Fantasm errors for one click correction.
22. Eddie is highly optimised for windowing operations such as scrolling.
23. Supports unlimited size files – not limited to 32k.
24. Ships with on-line guides to both 68k and PowerPC assembly language.
25. Supports hard copy chroma printing, extended keyboards, large monitors
and audio CD control.
——————————-
Fantasm V4.1 comes in two flavours:-
The normal 68k Fantasm, and the 68k/PowerPC PowerFantasm. Both behave and
look exactly the same, but the 68k version does not come with a PowerPC
assembler or linker.
Requirements
————
Fantasm V4.1 requires system 7, a Mac with at least an 020 processor and
will run in a minimum of 1 Meg of RAM. For comfort on a large project you
will need at least 4 MB of free ram and about 3-4 MB of free HD space.
