EveryWare announces Tango for FileMaker 2.1
Tango for FileMaker, the Web/database tool nominated for both a MacUser
MacEddy and MacWorld WorldClass award, has been upgraded
Macworld Expo, San Francisco, CA—January 7, 1997—EveryWare Development
Corp. today announced a new version of Tango for FileMaker. Tango for
FileMaker is a Web development tool used to integrate Macintosh FileMaker Pro
3.0 databases with the Web. Tango for FileMaker utilizes a visual
drag-and-drop development environment to enable rapid creation of Web-based
applications. Tango for FileMaker has been nominated for both the MacUser
MacEddy and Macworld World Class awards, two of the most highly respected
awards in the Macintosh community.
Tango for FileMaker 2.1 provides developers with added functionality,
increased performance and decreased development time over the previous 1.6
version.
Tango for FileMaker’s speed as been substantially enhanced. Due to improved
interaction with FileMaker Pro, typical database record addition and update
operations are now ten times faster than in the previous version. As well,
Tango for FileMaker now processes Tango meta tags 60% faster, a new,
intelligent document caching mechanism has been added, and a WebSTAR API
plug-in version of the server portion of Tango for FileMaker is now included.
Quarterdeck’s WebSTAR API (WSAPI) is a faster, more efficient alternative to
the Common Gateway Interface (CGI).
Tango for FileMaker 2.1 offers developers many new meta tags allowing for
enhanced data manipulation capabilities and improved “if-then” functionality.
Tango for FileMaker 2.1 also gives developers the option of including
“next/previous x records” functionality in their web applications. This
feature allows users to view large search result sets in multiple pages. In
keeping with Tango for FileMaker’s acclaimed ease-of-use, this feature can be
added to new applications with a single mouse click.
The new version of Tango for FileMaker provides a new facility that converts
PICT formatted images from a FileMaker Pro database to JPEG images on-the-fly.
Including pictures from FileMaker Pro databases in Tango-generated web pages
is now as simple as dragging a field name in Tango Editor, Tango for
FileMaker’s visual development environment.
Tango for FileMaker 2.1 also has the ability to access FileMaker Pro 3.0
databases from a remote machine over an AppleTalk network. This feature allows
the separating of the Web server from the database server, increasing
performance and easing administration.
Superior Scalability Features
Tango for FileMaker is a scalable application. Web developers can use Tango
for FileMaker to build Web-based applications with FileMaker Pro as the
back-end and then change the database to SQL Server, for example, with little
modification to the Tango-based application. These scalability features are
very important for developers implementing an Intranet/Internet based strategy
with large growth expectations.
About Tango for FileMaker
Tango for FileMaker has been nominated by MacUser magazine for “Best Internet
Server Application” and by MacWorld magazine for the 1997 World Class award.
Tango for FileMaker is sold through 12 countries with many thousands of units
shipped since it was first released. Tango for FileMaker 2.1 comes complete
with demonstration applications including an on-line shopping solution, a
seminar registration system, and a conferencing application.
Price and availability
Tango for FileMaker 2.1 sells for $349 and is available directly from
EveryWare Development Corp. Tango for FileMaker will be available mid-January
1997.
