NeTProfessional: Macintosh Solutions for the Internet debuts at
Mactivity and Macworld Expo with 36 -page sneak preview; the full
magazine premieres in March on a bi-monthly schedule and will offer full
coverage of the Internet from a Macintosh perspective.

Editor Raines Cohen says “NeTProfessional is about the Net, not just the
Web, so in addition to regular Web coverage such as site design,
maintenance, commerce and security, we will also look at intranets,
e-mail solutions, news mailing lists, and the Mac Internet community as
a whole.”

Cohen has seventeen years of experience in the Apple User Group
community and spent nearly five years in the newsroom at MacWEEK. For
the past two years he has specialized in Mac Web database publishing,
and is currently working on a book on that topic. He has brought
together a great group of contributing editors and writers for the Sneak
Preview and Premiere issue. The Sneak introduces News, Perspectives,
WeBFX, NeTProLive, and From the Basement as departments, and features
Net Technologies: Digital Commerce for the Rest of Us, and Perspective:
Interpreting Mac Web Server Stats.

The NeTProLive Website will be an integral part of the magazine,
featuring a searchable database of Mac Internet products and vendors,
and links, resources, news and updates related to NeTProfessional
articles.

The concept of NeTProfessional came about as publisher Jim Capparell
began working to get sister publication MacHome Journal up on the Web
(http://www.MacHome.com). Capparell realized over the course of several
months that there was no one source to turn to for Macintosh-specific
information – in fact, he found himself sorting through eight or to
magazines, dozens of mailing lists, and browsing hundreds of Websites
each month, and still coming up short.

Then in early October WebWeek released a survey stating that 67% of all
content on the Web is designed on a Macintosh, and some sources estimate
that as many as 40% of all servers are Macintosh. Other Internet
magazines rarely even mention the word Macintosh, let alone talk about
the unique tools available to Mac users working on the Internet. It
became apparent that, with rapidly changing technologies and the size
and vitality of this marketplace, a Mac-centric magazine was needed and
NeTProfessional was sketched out a few weeks later.
