BLUE WORLD SETS INTERNET BUSINESS STRATEGY
Previews MailMan, FMPro.Net; Shows Lasso 2.0 at Macworld Expo
BOSTON, MA – August 6, 1997 – As part of its mission of “bringing business
to the internet,” Blue World Communications, Inc. today previewed for the
first time two forthcoming products, MailMan and FMPro.Net, and showed the
shipping version of Lasso 2.0 at Macworld Expo/Boston. All three new
offerings support Bellevue, WA-based Blue World’s strategy of turning
Claris FileMaker Pro 3.0 for Mac OS into a full Internet business partner
for handling commerce and information.
“Together,” said Blue World President & CEO Bill Doerrfeld, “our FileMaker
Pro Internet companions allow FileMaker Pro users to seamlessly build
complete Internet business solutions using the leading database for Mac OS.”
“Blue World has produced quite a few successful leading edge solutions for
FileMaker Pro users,” said Antony Campitelli, product manager, database
products, Claris Corporation. “The company’s products help FileMaker Pro
users to better Web-enable their data with little effort.”
Lasso 2.0
Lasso 2.0, a major upgrade to Lasso 1.2, began shipping last month. As the
leading solution for Web database publishing with FileMaker Pro 3.0 for Mac
OS, Lasso both Web- and Java- enables databases. New features include Java
classes and Java applet and application support; an “inline” command to
process multiple database operations within a single HTML file; built-in
auto conversion of database PICTs to JPEG; a “log” command to log traffic
statistics to target databases and/or text files; and Apple Event control
of other server applications.
Lasso 2.0 Server, a new variation of Lasso, adds a stand-alone Web server
with integrated Lasso 2.0 CGI along with standard Web server features.
Lasso 2.0 Server has been optimized to operate as a dedicated FileMaker Pro
3.0 Web database server.
MailMan
MailMan, currently in development, brings the organizational power of a
relational database to email. MailMan is an email client that sends,
receives and manages Internet electronic mail to and from FileMaker Pro 3.0
databases. MailMan is especially well-suited to situations in which a large
volume of email has to be intelligently handled and integrated with other
database information, such as in customer service, technical support,
marketing, and sales/lead tracking.
Features include checking and sending mail directly from within FileMaker
Pro 3.0; visual reporting of all new, unread and unprocessed messages in
the “Mail Room;” rapid searching of any field across thousands of messages;
built-in contact management; creation of e-mail templates; and powerful
routines for automated replies, mailing lists, scheduled bulk mailings and
filtering.
FMPro.Net
FMPro.Net, a forthcoming service, provides professional FileMaker Pro
Webhosting. FMPro.Net’s Web database server farm is housed in a protected
environment with automatic gas-powered back-up generators, temperature
control, service redundancies and 24-hour on-call technicians.
FMPro.Net builds on the more than two years of experience Blue World
Communications has in hosting high-performance, high-traffic FileMaker Pro
databases on the Web, and complements its custom programming services for
creating complete Web site solutions.
