SEATTLE LAB INTERNET MAIL MACHINE BREAKS BARRIER FOR SMALL COMPANY EMAIL

— Easy-to-use computer offers everything needed for email server —

BOTHELL, WA and SANTA CLARA, CA, July 23, 1998 – Email has become such an
important communications medium that small companies are discovering its
importance in conducting business. While companies are hearing from
customers that email is the preferred way to share information, they don’t
want to add full-time staff just to maintain email and network servers and
work with Internet vendors. Companies are examining email’s “cost of
ownership,” which includes connections, equipment, and administration.

Now, an easy-to-use, inexpensive, “one-stop” computer is available with
email, Internet, and networking built in. The Seattle Lab Internet Mail
Machine (SLIMM) is a hardware/software solution from Seattle Lab in
conjunction with Ramp Networks. It takes about one hour to set up, from
opening the boxes to sending and receiving mail. SLIMM is so simple to set
up and operate that anyone, from a company president to a secretary, can
control its full range of services.

“For company managers who realize they need to quickly set up an email
server to make email and the Internet accessible to their employees, this
is a simple, affordable solution,” said Larry Heberlein, president of
Seattle Lab. “The SLIMM computer comes ready to use as a network server,
which makes it that much more versatile.”

The SLIMM hardware/software solution is attractive for small-to-medium
sized companies who are not currently managing their own email services and
need to get costs under control, especially those companies who do not have
the size or need for an IS Manager. Because SLIMM can access any SMTP
account, it is a sensible solution for companies who want to manage their
own email users. Mailboxes, user aliases, and distribution lists can be
added, modified, or deleted in a matter of seconds from any workstation on
the network.

SLIMM is a stand-alone computer operating as a network server and email
server. It offers a one-stop messaging service, providing email, web-based
email, remote administration, and web server capabilities. It is easy to
set up, easy to use, and versatile enough for a wide range of network
situations. SLIMM can be used as a separate server or in conjunction with
existing networks. It operates well with conventional telephone or ISDN
connections, and purchasers can upgrade at any time. The server even works
well with Macintoshes or combinations of PC and Macs running on the same
network.

“By combining the award-winning WebRamp M3 and Seattle Lab’s software,
small and medium sized businesses can now reduce the costs of hosting email
on their ISP’s site,” said Patty Burke, vice president of marketing for
Ramp Networks.

The well-integrated SLIMM solution comes with everything needed to create
and run an email server, connect to the Internet, and set up a network and
an Intranet. It is bundled with Seattle Lab’s software: the award-winning
SLmail email server; Emurl, which provides users with access to their email
from anywhere on the Internet; and RemoteNT, which provides remote access
to any system function across the Internet; as well as the Windows NT
Server operating system.

Hardware for SLIMM includes AMD K6 CPU, 64 MB RAM, SVGA monitor, 56K v.90
modem, keyboard, mouse, 3.2 GB and 3-1/2″ drives, and the WebRamp M3 router
from Ramp Networks, which doubles as a three-port serial connection and a
four-port network hub.

The Seattle Lab Internet Mail Machine is currently available for an
estimated street price of $3,499.00. SLIMM can be ordered by telephone
(425) 402-6003; by U.S. mail to: SLIMM, Seattle Lab, Inc., 9606 NE 180th
Street, Bothell, WA 98011; or by contacting resellers of Seattle Lab or
Ramp Networks.
