New Wave Software releases Upgrade for SPI-Software Piracy Intervention

Morrisville, PA – September 27, 1999 – To prevent software piracy and track
those who attempt it, New Wave Software, Inc. has developed SPI(TM) —
Software Piracy Intervention.

SPI adds a protective layer to software products that allows only those
end-users who legitimately purchased the software to install it. No matter
how many copies of a protected program get distributed illegally, only the
valid purchaser can install the product.

SPI includes unique features such as passive and active encryption
protection. SPI protected products can be distributed over the Internet, on
CD-ROM or on diskette. Another unique feature of SPI is that it can
remotely disable stolen prepackaged software. One phone call to New Wave
can disable one, two or thousands of stolen software products, rendering
them useless.

When the end-user installs a protected product, the SPI archive is
subjected to a series of validation checks. If any of these checks fail,
the product doesn’t install and the end-user’s IP information is recorded.
The developer of the software can use this information to track and
prosecute the thief.

Additional security can be added to your product using Lock Point(TM). Lock
Point locks your product to the first computer that it was successfully
installed on. Lock Point prevents illegal duplicates of an installed
product from running on any other computer. Both SPI and Lock Point are
cross platform and work seamlessly with any software application
or computer file.

The version 2.3 upgrade adds resource encryption, key file encryption, 6
general registers, 3 demo modes, and built-in online registration. Resource
and key file encryption adds an extra layer of protection for products
after they have been successfully installed. The general registers can be
used to encrypt critical memory allocation values, as counters or anything
else the creative developer can think of. The demo modes include expire by
number of days, number of uses and by a specific date. The online
registration information is collected by the SPI Security Server and posted
to the developer upon the unlock attempt.

Additional support has been added for Visual Basic for Applications (VBA),
Visual Basic, Java, C++ and FileMaker Pro database solutions.

Scheduled for release on September 27, 1999, the SPI upgrade will be
available from New Wave Software, Inc. “Initial response to SPI’s quality,
features and pricing was outstanding for version 1.0.”

“Version 2.3 adds a wealth of additions that enable greater protection
along with the additional features our current customers requested”, said
Eric Markowitz, New Wave Software, Inc.’ President.
