Placitas, NM – March 15, 2000 – Excel Software today extended its industry
lead in scriptable HTML report generation with its Macintosh and Windows
software modeling tools. Software design information created with MacA&D
and WinA&D products can be instantly distributed as highly customized
reports to team members, reviewers, subcontractors, customers, managers,
maintenance engineers and others involved in the development process. New
MacA&D 7.1.1 and WinA&D 3.1.3 features include hotspot links on diagram
images, custom page headers and footers, an integrated script debugger, a
script wizard for quickly generating highly customized reports, memory
optimizations and increased model capacity for large projects.
MacA&D and WinA&D are comprehensive tools for system analysis, requirements
specification, software design and code generation. Popular modeling
notations include object-oriented analysis and design with UML and
structured analysis and design using Yourdon/DeMarco. HTML reports
typically include a table of contents, title page, requirements
specifications, diagram images, text specifications and data dictionary.
Among the ready-to-run reports are multiple frame project browsers with
information partitioned across pages for quick browser access. Other
reports include class and component navigators and code and specification
browsers. Diagram image hotspots link information making navigation as
natural as within the modeling tool itself. Users with Netscape or Internet
Explorer click on diagram objects to see child diagrams, specifications,
code files or dictionary entries. Likewise, references in requirement and
dictionary entries link to related information.
The scriptable HTML report generator gives the user full control over the
content and format of generated reports. The report generator processes an
HTML text file with special tags that get replaced with information from
the design model. These replacement tags support user interactions during
the generation process, looping structures, hypertext links and variable
calculations. The new software has dozens of new tags for string, list and
custom data manipulations. Common routines can be defined and called within
the script or in other files. The new script debugger can view the
processed script and generated output, user selections, defined lists,
variable values and custom data. An indented trace of each processed tag
makes it easy to debug custom scripts by stopping at designated breakpoints
or single stepping through each tag.
MacA&D and WinA&D are available in four product editions, Standard at $495,
Desktop at $1295, Educational at $845 and Developer at $1995. Customers may
