FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FRONTBASE, INC. UNVEILS FRONTBASE FOR MAC OS X PUBLIC BETA
Standards-compliant, scalable relational database server available now
LAKE FOREST, CA., November 9, 2000 – FrontBase, Inc., today announced
FRONTBASE 2.18, the first relational database server available for Mac OS X
Public Beta. FRONTBASE 2.18 is designed to be the foundation for dynamic
and scalable website deployments on Mac OS X and a natural choice for
WebObjects developers.
“We built much of FRONTBASE 2.18 in Cocoa for fast, native performance on
Mac OS X and excellent interoperability with WebObjects,” said Geert B.
Clemmensen, founder and CTO of FrontBase, Inc. “With FRONTBASE 2.18,
developers now have the tools to deliver high-availability, enterprise
level systems and dynamic web sites with 100% Apple solutions.”
“Mac OS X is designed to be an outstanding platform for web development,”
said Clent Richardson, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer
Relations, “We’re excited to see FrontBase’s dynamic, enterprise level
database tools available on Mac OS X Public Beta for users to work with
today.”
FRONTBASE’s rich, enterprise level feature set includes the ability to
easily handle extremely large (over 1 terabyte) databases, gigabyte
character data and large objects, encryption of datastore and client/server
communication, storage-level Unicode support, live database backup, and
multi-server deployment (replication and clustering). These features ensure
that FRONTBASE is easy to use and maintain and does not require a dedicated
database administrator. They also provide the scalability and performance
required for current and future dynamic web-based solutions.
Point-and-click installation and adherence to Mac OS X’s directory
structure ensures that almost anyone can install and run FRONTBASE for Mac
OS X on their computer.
Standards Compliance
FRONTBASE is written in ANSI C, supports Unicode internally, communicates
over TCP/IP, and is fully SQL 92 compliant. FRONTBASE is ready to work with
today’s standards-based environments.
Price and Availability
FRONTBASE is priced from US $499 to $1999. A free restricted-deployment
version and a free full-featured developer version without deployment
rights are also available. FRONTBASE for Mac OS X Public Beta can be
