Any seasoned Web surfer is familiar with X10.com’s wireless digital video camera, which has been advertised on all corners of the Web. More recently, the company began employing “pop-under” ads with certain sites, whereby a large advertisement is opened in a new window that is then resized and centered under the current page, making it impossible for a viewer to miss. While X10 has achieved increased exposure and visitors thanks to the advertisement, a new study says that the number of visitors who then purchase the product is so “statistically insignificant” that it can’t be measured. Given the report, many surfers hope this annoying method of advertising will be abandoned. (MacMinute will never employ popup advertising of any kind.)
