Media Lab today introduced WebMeddler, a solution that allows authorized non-programmers to make minor changes to existing Web pages without disrupting page formats, design elements, or the integrity of HTML programming. WebMeddler works by adding an invisible Java applet to Web pages that incorporates an HTML parser, FTP client, and a Word processor. Upon providing an authorized username and password for FTP access, users can easily change text and other elements that have been specified as editable by the HTML programmer. WebMeddler, available now for US$199, is currently only compatible with Netscape 4 on the Mac.
