Be Inc., the company behind the BeOS that once positioned itself as an alternative to the Mac OS, has filed suit against Microsoft alleging that the software giant’s anti-competitive practices destroyed its business, according to Reuters. Be claims Microsoft struck deals with PC makers that prohibited them from including other operating systems with PCs, eliminating Be’s chances of gaining a foothold in the PC industry. Most of Be, which reportedly turned down a US$125 million acquisition offer from Apple in 1996, was purchased by Palm for $11 million last year, although the company retained some assets as well as the option to pursue antitrust claims.
