FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Fourth World Ships WebMerge 2.0
LOS ANGELES, California – 15 October, 2002 Fourth World today released
WebMerge 2.0, a tool for Mac OS and Windows that generates static Web pages
from database or spreadsheet files. The new version provides many more
options for specifying how pages are generated, and supports more than a
dozen new tags HTML templates can use for assembling and linking Web
content.
WebMerge works with any database or spreadsheet that exports in
tab-delimited, Merge, or other tabular format, including FileMaker Pro,
Microsoft Access, and AppleWorks. Using HTML template pages created by the
user for nearly any layout design, WebMerge makes a new HTML page from the
data in each record of the exported file. WebMerge can also create an index
page with links to each of the generated pages. Generated pages can be
hosted on any Web server without the need for a specialized database
hosting solution.
WebMerge 2.0 supports many new template tags, including conditional IF-THEN
expressions, an INCLUDE tag to merge the contents of any text or HTML file
into a template, and several tags for navigating between generated pages.
Exported database files can now use any characters as delimiters, with
presets for most popular programs and formats. The new interface provides
options for creating multiple index pages, running automated batches of
settings, logging, and can automatically create simple templates for
instant publishing with no HTML knowledge required.
“From small Web shops to the Library of Congress, our 1.0 customers are
looking forward to automating their work even more flexibly with WebMerge
2.0,” said Richard Gaskin, President of Fourth World Media Corporation.
“Their suggestions have created a feature set that just about any Web
developer will find valuable sooner or later.”
“The index pagination will come in very handy,” said Web developer Miracle
Wanzo of Nala & Company. “This will be the fourth site I have built with
WebMerge, and I could not live without it.”
WebMerge 2.0 sells for US$69 through October 31, after which the price will
be US$79. Multiple license can be purchased in groups of five or ten at a
substantial discount.
WebMerge 2.0 is available for download at the publisher’s Web site:
WebMerge can be used for free to generate up to 20 pages from a database
file and has all features enabled with no time limit, suitable for
evaluation and testing. Registered copies of WebMerge have no limit on the
number of pages that can be generated.
WebMerge requires Windows 95/98/NT/2000/ME/XP or Mac OS 8.0 or later, 64 MB
total memory, and 5 MB disk space. The Mac version is available for both
Mac OS X and Macintosh Classic.
