Salling Software AB has updated Salling Media Sync, an application
that synchronizes playlists, music, and podcasts in iTunes onto
mobile devices from Sony, Nokia and Sony Ericsson. The new version
supports Palm’s Pre smartphone, and includes the ability to also sync
photos, letting users to bring their favorite photo albums with them.
“There are a lot of frustrated phone owners out there who love
iTunes, but can’t easily get their tracks onto their non-Apple
device,” says Salling Software President Jonas Salling. “With Salling
Media Sync, they don’t have to choose between their phone and iTunes:
they can use both, together, seamlessly. And it’s free for basic use,
with no track limit, no playlist limit, and no expiration–ever.”
Once the phone is connected to a USB port, the users select the
playlists and podcasts they want on the device. Salling Media Sync
not only uploads the music tracks and podcast episodes, but also
replicates each actual playlist on the device and — on devices that
support it — transfers play count metadata for each item to the
device. However, Salling Media Sync wcan’t bring over DRM-protected
content.
Salling Media Sync is available now through Salling Software’s web
site (“http://www.salling.com) at a price of US$22 per user. Version
1.1 is a free update for registered users.
Salling Media Sync works with iTunes 7.6.x and 7.7.x, is compatible
with many phone models, and requires Mac OS X 10.4.11 and higher or
Windows XP SP2 and Vista with Windows Media Player 11.
