From the show floor of the Macworld 2010 conference, high-speed file transfer expert Aspera http://www.asperasoft.com has unveiled its new mobile transport technology, fasp-AIR.
This new product is designed to enable faster data transfer speeds for wireless networks, and is an evolution of Aspera’s transport protocol fasp (fast and secure protocol). Fasp-AIR will allow Aspera customers to achieve high-speed file transfers over wireless networks through an all-new iPhone/ iPad transfer app and provide opportunities for application developers to directly embed the technology, says Michelle Munson, president and co-founder of Aspera.
It achieves significant performance improvements for upload and download speeds over 3G, LTE and 802.11 g/n, she adds. fasp-AIR transfers at bandwidth capacity and purportedlly achieves 3G file transfer speeds on average three times faster than conventional HTTP. Transfers over 802.11 networks connected to long distance WANs, such as mobile clients downloading from distant servers, are 10-100X faster than traditional TCP transports, says Munson.
Fasp-AIR is available for beta use via an uploader app for the iPhone that enables users to move content generated by the device (pictures and videos) to mobile-enabled Aspera servers and will be generally available in the first half of 2010. This application will allow Aspera customers to collaborate in new ways. For example, broadcasters who already have programs in place that leverage user-generated content can offer their contributors a quicker and more reliable way to share pictures and videos directly from their iPhone, by uploading them at maximum speed to Aspera content ingest servers, says Munson.
