The Ottawa Hospital will deploy “several hundred” iPads to its doctors and nurses next month. By the end of the year the institution should have deployed 1,000 or more of the Apple tablets for mobile access to health records “and the number will go up from there,” reports “CIO Canada” (http://www.itworldcanada.com/news/the-electronic-health-record-meets-the-ipad/141650).
Dale Potter, chief information officer at Ottawa Hospital, says doctors, nurses and administrators will mainly use iPads for mobile access to health information within the hospital. However, they won’t carry iPads all the time, especially outside the hospital, so there are plans to support iPhones starting late this year., he adds. Potter even has plans to support the iPod touch for some purposes, says “CIO Canada.”
