Apple shipped a record 18.6 million iPhones in its fiscal 2011 second quarter; that’s 113% year-over-year growth and beat just about everyone’s predictions.
Recognized iPhone-related revenue was a staggering US$12.3 billion, compared to $5.45 billion in the year-ago quarter. That’s an increase of 126%.
Sales in both the Americas and Asia Pacific doubled year-over-year. Apple Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook says the company is seeing strong iPhone deployment in companies worldwide. There are now 196 carriers in 90 countries.
This quarter Verizon, SKT and Saudi Telecom came on board. Cook says Apple is constantly looking at places and/or situations where it would make sense to bring on incremental partners.
