“The Wall Street Journal (http://macte.ch/SkdcV) and other sources are reporting that a large explosion ripped through a Foxconn plant in southwestern China Friday night, killing at least two people and suspending production at the facility.
Foxconn — which manufacturers, among other things, the iPad 2says the situation has been brought under control by the fire department and the “cause of the explosion is being investigated by local police.” The company said it is cooperating with the investigation and production at the site has been suspended until the investigation is completed.
A statement from the news department of the Chengdu Municipal government said two people are confirmed dead and 16 injured, including three seriously. The government appeared to rule out foul play, saying the explosion didn’t have a human factor.
