During a conference call with analyst discussing Apple’s latest financial results, Apple CEO Tim Cook said the Mac was going stronger than ever.
Approximately 4.89 million Macs were sold during the quarter. That beats the previous record by about 750,000. Apple also saw record desktop sales, thanks mostly to the iMac. The MacBook Air also fueled growth, along with the MacBook Pro.
Cook said that response to Mac OS X 10.7 (“Lion”) has been tremendous with over six million downloads in the quarter. The Mac is, as usual, outgrowing the computer industry as a whole. By more than six times, per the latest data from the IDC research group, Cook says.
