The iPhone captured the largest share of mobile phones shipments in Japan for the first time in the October-December quarter, accounting for 26.6 %, due to the popularity of the iPhone 4S smartphone model, reports “The Mainichi Daily News” (http://macte.ch/rYa99), citing info from the IDC Japan research group.
Fujitsu, which took over the mobile phone operations of Toshiba , came second with an 18.3% share and Sharp ranked third with 15.7%. Total shipments in Japan surged 15.2% from a year earlier to 10.65 million units; smartphones accounted for 64.7% of this number.
